The retail giant, which closed its store at at 2800 S. Columbia Road earlier this year, has registered the 99,000 square foot space with online real estate company Ten X. Bidding will begin Dec. 11 and end Dec. 13, with the starting bid listed as $150,000.

Macy’s announced in January it would close its Grand Forks location, along with approximately 100 stores under its umbrella, after the company reported disappointing sales and low performance in 2016. Macy’s opened at Columbia Mall as an anchor tenant in 2006, though the original tenant was Dayton’s, which opened with the mall in 1978.

Columbia Mall has actively been searching for a tenant to fill the Macy’s space. There is no information on a potential user or buyer for the space, mall spokeswoman Marianne Fasano said.

Macy’s announced it would market its Grand Forks location but didn’t make the listing price public.

“Macy’s does not comment on rumors or speculation,” Macy’s spokeswoman Jacqueline King previously told the Herald when asked about the sale price of its Grand Forks space. “We also are unable to discuss our real estate plans for any stores outside of our flagships.”

The assessed value of the space was listed by Grand Forks County at $6.18 million in 2016.
