Trevon Bradford knew he was headed into the game for Oregon State when Victor Bolden was blasted by an Arizona player while waiting for the ball to come down on a punt.

Bradford, a true freshman, had played sparingly at slot receiver behind Bolden, who has performed at a consistently high level for the Beavers.

“Coaches always harp on if someone goes down, the next man up has got to be ready to play,” Bradford said. “So Vic had gone down and it was my opportunity to go in and help the team win.

“I did a good job of preparing all week, coaches did a good job of helping me out. So I just tried to make the most of it when I got in the game.”

That preparation showed when Bradford took the field.

He had an immediate impact on the passing game and wound up with three catches for 51 yards and one touchdown.

That score came on a 35 yard throw from Marcus McMaryion early in the third quarter. Bradford broke into the open down the middle of the field.

“We had just seen the coverage that they ran and seen that the safety had been biting on some of the earlier routes that Vic had been running and that play had actually been designed for Vic. We had gone over it in the locker room and then he had got hurt, so it was my opportunity to make a play,” Bradford said.

“(The safety) bit on it and Marcus gave me a hell of a ball and the line did a good job blocking, so I just tried to capitalize on that.”

Bradford was a three star recruit out of Oregon City and was the No. 6 overall recruit out of the state.

He was impressed by the OSU coaches during his recruitment and signed with the Beavers. “I felt like they were really genuine people, cared about me, and in the recruiting process that’s not really something that happens too often. You don’t really build a relationship with coaches like that. They just made me feel really comfortable and it’s close to home so it’s nice to be able to go back home and see my family too.”

Bradford arrived in the spring and had an impressive performance in the spring game.

But his season has consisted mostly of practices with special teams action during the games.

Brennan, OSU’s outside receivers coach, said Bradford has a very good combination of quickness and body control.

“And he can adjust to the ball well and I thought he finished on the ball really well last Saturday,” Brennan said. “He’s got some good speed and good quickness and his ability to change direction is really good, so he’s a tough cover in the slot.”

Brennan said he’s excited about Bradford’s development.

“It’s always hard as a freshman, especially when you’re playing behind someone like Victor, who is such a consistently good player,” Brennan said.

“But I think Trevon, the best thing about him is he has continued to work. He hasn’t gotten discouraged and then when we called his name he was ready to answer and he did and he answered with some big plays and some outstanding blocks. So I’m really excited about what we’re seeing from him and I think we’re going to continue to be excited about what we see from him down the road.”

[Walton among 9 Canes heading to combine]

Drake isn expected to show up when Miami takes on Wake Forest on Wednesday. Those who do will see Anthony Lawrence Jr. go for his third double double in a row for the surging Hurricanes.

Records: Wake Forest (9 14, 2 9 ACC); Miami (17 5, 6 4). Wednesday.

Where: Watsco Center, Coral Gables (capacity: 7,972).

Line:Miami by 10.

Standings:As of Tuesday, Miami (6 4) was tied with North Carolina State for fourth place in the ACC. Ahead of that pack: first place Virginia (11 0), second place Clemson (8 3) and third place Duke (7 3). Wake Forest (2 9) was 14th of 15 teams. Must be an ESPN subscriber to access the stream (which is subject to blackout). The Deacs only win in that stretch: Florida State, which is the only team to beat Miami in its last five.

Series:Miami is 8 11 against Wake Forest (first meeting: 1940; second meeting: 1991; third meeting: 2005; the teams have played every year since). UM is 6 2 at home. It lost the last meeting, 96 79, at Wake Forest on Jan. 18, 2017.

Crawford shares ballhandling duties with Childress (whosefather, former 16 year pro and Deacs legend Randolph Childress, is an assistant coach).

Doral Moore, Wake Forest

Miami hasn faced a man with Moore size since FSU, and it be tough sledding if they drive right at him (2.1 blocks per game). Getting him into foul trouble is a good idea, and putting him on the free throw line is a better one (43.9 percent). He averages nearly a double double per game (10.3 points, team high 9.0 rebounds)

Terrence Thompson, Wake Forest

Defense has been the biggest issue for the Deacons, and UM should have a clear advantage at the four spot unless Thompson and backup Donovan Mitchell (6 8, 210) come to play. Thompson, who transferred from Marshall, is likely to see a lot of Lawrence.

Located 20 miles west of downtown Philadelphia, Valley Forge will be Boyd Gaming’s first asset in Pennsylvania, the second largest commercial gaming state in the nation.

The purchase price represents an implied multiple of 7 times EBITDA, including expected cost synergies and incremental growth from the property’s impending slot floor expansion, and before any operational improvements. The Company expects the acquisition to be free cash flow positive and immediately accretive to earnings.

Keith Smith, President and Chief Executive Officer of Boyd Gaming, said: “The acquisition of Valley Forge Casino Resort is another excellent opportunity to further grow and diversify our nationwide portfolio. With this acquisition, we will expand into the second largest gaming state in the country, establishing a presence in a densely populated, high traffic area just west of Philadelphia. And thanks to Pennsylvania’s recent passage of gaming expansion legislation, there are new opportunities to drive incremental growth at Valley Forge through the expansion of the property’s slot capacity and the introduction of new forms of gaming.”

Valley Forge features a 40,000 square foot casino with 600 slot machines, 50 table games, and nearly 500 hotel rooms. The property also has eight restaurants and bars, and more than 100,000 square feet of meeting, convention and exhibit space. The property is located just two miles north of King of Prussia Mall, the largest mall in the United States.

Following the passage of gaming expansion legislation in November, Valley Forge eliminated its customer admission fee, and plans to expand its gaming capacity with the addition of 250 slot machines in early 2018, both of which are expected to drive increased customer traffic. Additionally, the legislation allows the property to offer online gaming within the state of Pennsylvania, as well as sports betting if permitted under federal law in the future.

Smith added: “With the successful completion of our acquisitions of Valley Forge and the Pinnacle assets, Boyd Gaming will gain direct access to four of the nation’s largest gaming markets Philadelphia, St. Louis, Kansas City and Cincinnati with a combined population of nearly 10 million adults. We will expand our nationwide presence, operating 29 properties across 10 states. We believe this expansionwill help drive additional growth throughout our nationwide portfolio, as we market our destination properties to these new customers in the Midwest and Northeast.”

The Valley Forge transaction is expected to close in the third quarter of 2018, subject to customary closing conditions and the receipt of all required regulatory approvals. The transaction will be financed with incremental debt financing.

As a result of the Company’s substantial free cash flow, Boyd Gaming expects to continue its program of returning capital to shareholders through quarterly dividend payments and share repurchases.

Morrison Foerster LLP served as legal advisor to Boyd Gaming for the transaction. Moelis Company LLC served as exclusive financial advisor to Boyd Gaming.
